I changed my mind...

March 6, 2017

Any major change you make in your life has the ability to make or break you. In order to be successful you have to change how you think. After many years of knowing I needed to change, I finally wanted to change. I wanted to look and feel better. And once I realized keto could be my way of doing just that, I had to be open minded, and toss out what I thought to be the truth.

Fear of falling, fear of flying

Why do we tend to be so negative when truly desiring to take positive action in our lives? Why do we get all excited about something wonderful and then get so discouraged wondering if it will fail? If you want to change something about yourself, stop talking about doing it and just do it. Sometimes we have to spring into action before our brain gets a chance to worry and stop us. Sometimes we just have to go for what we really need in our life and genuinely focus.

In the past I would start a "lifestyle change", say I couldn't do it/it wasn't working and I'd stop. And in those moments I was right. I couldn't do it. It wasn't working, and I wasn't ready. I was not ready to fly. I was only ready to fail. Sometimes we have to wait and then create opportunity in an environment that will allow lasting change.

I had to stop thinking about past failed attempts at trying to bring my body into balance. What good would that do me? I started to tell myself  "Worst case scenario I look for something else, best case scenario I'm wildly successful!" Making important choices requires action  NOT overthinking. Overthinking gets you nowhere. It's a lazy verb. Action, on the other hand, is the manifestation of your hard work, the results of your positive attitude toward change.

Losing weight and fighting disease are incredibly emotional processes. When you start to lose weight, you may be upset over the years you missed out on being unhealthy and uncomfortable. As you progress you may see an old photo and feel disappointment over your former life. You may even cry. All of this is normal in any metamorphosis.

If you don't have a support system

Others around you may be discouraging. It never ceases to amaze me how people can support your unhealthy habits, but when you start making improvements everyone has an opinion. As the millennials would say "ignore the haters".

They may, for a number of reasons, disagree with what you know will healthily work for you. They may not seem happy for you as you move toward your goals. As you gain confidence you may hear things like "you've changed," without positive connotation. Don't expect or rely on others to be happy and supportive. You have to be happy for you. You have to support you.

You focus on flying, wings spread. And if you have a setback, start again. Just don't give up.
